Elvis Shoots Monster Fish to Win $85,000 Airboat at Carp Out

The 2016 Backwater Outdoors All-Out-Carp-Out is in the books, and this year’s tournament paid out bigger and better than ever before. The two-night bowfishing tournament event took place on Lake Guntersville in Guntersville, Alabama and drew 1000 participants from across the country.

The teams battled it out for tons of prizes, gear, and cash. But the big draw of this event was the grand prize, a Monster Airboat valued at $85,000, to be given away to the individual shooting the biggest common carp of the tournament. When the smoke finally cleared, Clay Elvis of South Carolina was declared the winner of the Carp Out with his fish that weighed in at 34.95 pounds.

The 34.95 pound common carp was enough for the win and the opportunity to haul the Monster Airboat back to South Carolina.

In addition to the grand prize, there were plenty of opportunities for teams to score on cash and prizes with hourly payouts for the biggest fish weighed in throughout the night. This year’s event featured $150,000 in cash and prizes for the guys and gals that showed up for the festivities.

Weather conditions made things tough for the teams as they covered the lake in search of a prize-winning fish. Temperatures were cool, and the water was rough. Despite a few close calls and frustration battling the elements, the teams were all smiles with their overall experience at this year’s Carp Out.

A Growing Sport

Longtime bowfisherman, Michael Evans, noted the impressive number of teams and boats hanging out in the Gunertersville area over the weekend. “This was the only time I’ve stayed at a motel in Guntersville when the bowfising boats outnumbered the bass boats 10 to 1!,” says Evans. Evans and his bowfishing team from Georgia routinely fish – and place well – in many of the major bowfishing events across the country.

You know the sport of bowfishing is growing when the hotel parking lot has more bowfishing rigs than bass boats!
