I shot 8 does one buck this year , you can live vicariously thru me momentarily ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Yep, better luck next year....

Can’t do that in Wisconsin. We get an authorization, no tag

Tony. Lol

he my son when I was hunting if it was 8point shoot it are take a fat doe

I filled mine this year, but I have certainly warmed myself by the heat of a burning tag in years past!

Going to make a wall of shame out of unfilled tags

Or ever lol๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m gonna stick to turkey hunting ๐Ÿฆƒ

I have a doe in the freezer and passed young bucks. Not filling a tag doesn’t bother me. I’d rather have a unfilled tag after the season than to shoot a young buck at the beginning. And I live by, never shoot the last day what you’ve passed all season.

That's great. Now we need a Doctor to find a cure for Pelosi

What if the deer are anti-Vaxers????

I could not kill a deer but I also don’t want to see them wasting away. Nor should someone kill one of these and eat meat that could bring about human illness. I don’t have a problem with hunting for a years fresh meat supply. I have not heard of this and I belong to 25+ animal protection groups. Love you guys! Auntie Debbie

I'm trying go through all of Bastian's papers/conclusions that I can get access to. First everything I'm reading says that spiroplasma has been isolated and grow in the lab. When those bacteria were intracraniallly injected (means directly on brain) the animals developed clinical signs of CWD. I'm curious if these samples contained any prions. It sure that there were, but so far I can't tell if any processes were ran to ensure no prion contamination in samples of bacteria. However, it seems the hypothesis is that spiroplasma has RNA that then cause prions to form once it has infected a host. I've read some of his work were they did detect spiroplasmas in samples of CWD/scrapie infected animals as well as 2 CJD patients. However, the strain of spiroplasma searched for wasn't in every infected animal. The CJD patients have shown antibodies for 2 different strains. This shows it is far from settled. From what I know spiroplasmas are common in the environment. They can persist in soil, can be found in plants, and several insects. I'm unsure why only certain areas have popped up with CWD if these bacteria are so common. An isolate of spiroplasma has been found in the rabbit/grouse tick (Haemaphysalis leporispalustris) that was used to experimentally induce CWD/Scrapie. With this tick being so common in North to Central America why isn't there a common infection in all of the states with this tick? Why are some animals not infected with spiroplasmas being so prevalent but CWD is limited to areas with prions? Additionally, I don't know of any CWD cases where prions aren't found. This press conference is about as premature as you can get. The research is far from settled as to what amount of what strain of spiroplasma is needed to infect an animal. So far intracranial inoculation is the only way I've seen spiroplasma shown to infect animals. When prion research showed that, everyone from Dr. Deer, to Ted Nugent, to general hunting people all said that was "just in a lab". Now that it is shown with a bacteria, it is somehow the end-all, be-all research. People are so hopeful they have a "gotcha" moment on prevailing science that they are forgetting they are looking at what is currently fringe science ( not saying it is false data though). Fringe science can lead to new discoveries and the advancement of understandings on our world. Or fringe science can often be shown to not be replicated and be a result of poor design. Time will tell. I think it is awesome there is new data and ideas coming forward. However, there is a possiblity that we now know that CWD is doubly contagious. We have seen prions cause infections. What if now we have data showing that spiroplasma can cause CWD as well as their byproducts (prions). Prions are almost already impossible to remove from the environment so how do you remove a common thing like spiroplasmas AND prions? Additionally, we've seen that CWD prions have a hard time to infect people. What about spiroplasma? Since the bacteria hasn't been looked for (but can cause TSE type disease) can we be assured that humans aren't getting infected by meat? Everyone is dancing about the words "cure" or "vaccine". This may be great for captive farms, but I don't see how this would be applied in a world full of spiroplasmas with the potential to infect wild deer. Additionally, it scares me to see how many people are willing to happily throw antibiotics into wild deer populations and then ingest them. So far tetracycline is the only drug that I read can reduce effects of spiroplasma. Without being able to ensure the proper dosages and likely multiple doses reach target animals, I just don't see a viable option to help wild deer. That doesn't even bring in what side effects antibiotics may have in deer. I'm hopeful where this research leads, but most of it has been out there as a hypothesis for ~20 years and few researchers have looked at it. Maybe that means Dr. Bastian is a stand alone genius in the field. Maybe it means he is barking up the wrong tree. That's not for me to decide (I'm not smart enough lol). The press conference is fueled by people with a massive distrust in science based government actions. They don't like the current results or plans so they have latched on to keywords that they love like "cure" from a science researcher saying the basis of their regulations is wrong. Almost all the papers I've been able to read by Bastian say they need more study, replication, etc. Decades of prion based research has gotten us the facts we have today on prion transmission. To think in 3 more years Bastian will figure out all aspects of spiroplasma is insane in my book (but hey, maybe I'm wrong). The funny thing is we know prions shed from infected animals (maybe even caused by spiroplasmas) can infect other animals. Therefore, regulations and bans are still needed. We don't know how spiroplasmas move from animal to animal so that also shows a need to take as many precautions as possible. I'm going to keep reading as info comes out, but so far this is just preliminary information provided by a small, handful of researchers that is being propped up by media and anti-government groups who believe they can monitor and maintain ecosystems and herds better than highly educated biologists

Funny that people are rejecting the CWD hystaria now there gonna cure it in a year. Why didnt they just cure with out getting everyone all jack about in the first place...B.S.

This scientist's research findings were published back in 2007. If there were any real credibility to this it would have been moving forward way before now.

Let them go full steam ahead. If it works great at least someone as an idea other than blast everything in the area. What about the dreaded bait piles this time of the year is perfect to use medicated bait. As video says Nobel Prize in the offing. Wish this doctor the best.

Dont get your hopes up. Prion illness is tricky.

They can find a cure for CWD but not cancer

I think it's funny how we all a sudden had a outbreak of cwd and they now say they have a cure. I still say they created cwd in heavy populated areas but now they have a cure something sounds fishy.

Heard it was man made so I guess stop and reverse what they did

If all the deer take the vaccine then yes but some might not want it so it will keep spreading.

That may explain why the media, all the sudden has started saying it may jump to humans. Which is of course BS

Keep in mind that prion related diseases have been around for a while. Between mad cow disease and variant Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, humans have been afflicted with it. If there was an easy vaccine or cure, I suspect it would have been found. Scientists working in this field aren't amateurs.

dnr won’t like that there’s a cure.

Someone else trying to dip into the cwd funds that hunters and anglers contribute to.

There is a lot of CWD news surrounding spiroplasma being the cause of CWD. While it is possible, it is far from proven. I contacted the CWD Alliance (I highly recommend their website if you want CWD info). Here is the response: Donald, Thank you for contacting the CWD Alliance. Over the years, there have been numerous studies exploring the potential role of spiroplasma bacteria in CWD transmission and persistence. At best, that body of research is inconclusive and contradictory. Dr. Bastian’s work and theory’s have yet to be replicated by the scientific community, despite many attempts to do so. That does not mean, however, that spiroplasma or other unknown factors don’t play some role in CWD transmission beyond that of prions. Below is a quick synopsis of some research that provides counter points to Dr. Bastian’s research. Again, please note that all these studies note that more research needs done, and there may be things we are missing. Research claiming that bacteria are the causative agents of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies has yet to be conclusively reproduced despite rigorous attempts to do so. In blind studies done by the University of Maryland School of Medicine, samples of brain material infected with scrapie, along with uninfected samples, were searched for Spiroplasma spp. and other common bacteria and bacteria-like structures using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification (PCR is a method widely used in molecular biology to make many copies of specific DNA segments). Researchers found no evidence that any eubacterium, including Spiroplasma or any other bacteria type, was consistently associated with scrapie-infected brain tissue, thus concluding that the “agent responsible for TSE disease cannot be a spiroplasma or any other eubacterial species.” Source: Absence of Spiroplasma or Other Bacterial 16S rRNA Genes in Brain Tissue of Hamsters with Scrapie Irina Alexeeva, Ellen J. Elliott, Sandra Rollins, Gail E. Gasparich, Jozef Lazar, Robert G. Rohwer Journal of Clinical Microbiology Jan 2006, 44 (1) 91-97; DOI: 10.1128/JCM.44.1.91-97.2006 An extensive research project completed at Louisiana State University on the potential roles of Spiroplasma in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies found that following inoculation of Spiroplasma mirum into neonatal goats and five month-old white-tailed deer, none of the animals developed clinical signs or pathology seen in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. In this study, the bacteria were introduced to the animals intracerebrally, intravenous, or intradermally. Additionally, researchers conducting this study tested three species of Spiroplasma and found that they were susceptible to minimal dilutions of common laboratory disinfectants as well as heat sterilization of only 250°F for 15 minutes. In a wide array of other studies, samples of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy-infected material treated with similar sterilization methods were shown to remain infectious; thus indicating that other factors not related to bacteria result in the transmission and/or persistence of the disease. *Note: This study was published as a Doctoral dissertation and has yet to be published in a peer reviewed journal. Source: French, Hilari Maree, "Characterization of Spiroplasma mirum and its role in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies" (2011). LSU Doctoral Dissertations. 3012. Most experimental examinations of TSE-causing agents point to proteins at the infectious agent. The hallmark study of the prions’ role in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies was conducted by Dr. Stanley Prusiner who demonstrated that after adding enzymes that destroyed DNA and RNA to scrapie-infected brain material, the material remained infections. These enzymes would likely have damaged or destroyed bacteria present in the samples. However, when he adding protein-neutralizing enzymes to the scrapie-infected brain material, it’s infectivity plummeted. Thus, he demonstrated that the causative agent of the disease was most likely protein based, not bacterial-based. It should be noted that Prusiner’s work earned a Nobel Prize due to its rigor and reproducibility by other researchers. Source: Prusiner SB. (1982). Novel proteinaceous infectious particles cause scrapie. Science. 9;216(4542):136-44. Artificially synthesized prions have shown to be capable of causing prion disease. To rule out the role of unidentified substances as disease causative agents in samples of infectious tissues, researchers successfully created a “clean” synthetic version of the scrapie prion that was capable of infecting mice. Put his team to work on some of the numerous quarantined deer farms while monitored by the state DNR. This will prove or disprove his theory. They would also have to come up with another way to give any cure to deer. There is no way you’re going to inoculate all the infected deer in the wild.

DNR largest anti hunting entity known to man. I’m not going to argue with anybody but please study CWD, what it is, where it came from etc.Talk to deer doctor and you will logically figure it out.

Let's get these guys working on cancer

Insurance companies will pay them not to stop it

I sure hope it works! A test kit within a year would be an awesome first step! It will be a task to be able to treat the whole herd, not sure how those would work but what an amazing breakthrough if this is true!

Looks like I'm going to open a mobile deer vaccine service now.

Wonderful!!
