Let Me Take a Selfie

By Brodie SwisherMay 4, 20151 Comment

It seems that all the world is obsessed with taking “selfies” these days. We have phones and tablets with specific features just for taking selfies. Social media would be at a loss without the countless selfies loaded each day. Heck, there’s even a song about a couple crazy girls taking selfies. So all the cool people are taking selfies, I get it. And while I do think that dudes taking selfies in front of the bathroom mirror is appalling…I do believe there is one legit place for taking selfies. The outdoors. Outdoor selfies are priceless. Outdoor selfies are much cooler than drunk chics with ducks lips at the bar. Outdoor selfies ae the good stuff of memories in the field. So how does one go about taking better outdoor selfies? One company has the answer to better selfies, and video production, in the field.

SeaLife introduced the newest addition to its AquaPod line recently, the AquaPod Mini. Originally intended as an extendable underwater monopod that can mount any camera to allow divers to get up close and personal to sea creatures while remaining at a safe distance, the AquaPod Mini has taken on a whole new purpose. Unlike popular “selfie sticks,” the AquaPod is designed for serious outdoor or underwater use with extreme durability and non-corrosive parts. The ¼-20 and GoPro mounts allow for the mounting of just about any camera.

Think of it as the “selfie stick” for outdoor enthusiasts, designed to be used either underwater for bowfishing, fishing, waterfowling, and more. And it’s also a great solution for better shots above water and in the most extreme situations. The anodized aluminum body, stainless steel hardware, and rubberized grip on the AquaPod Mini provides users with a rugged, ergonomically designed camera pole that can be taken to the depths of the oceans or to the tops of mountains to capture both video and still images from amazing perspectives. Extending from 15.5 inches out to a maximum of 38 inches, the AquaPod Mini is compact and travel-friendly.

“While our intention with the AquaPod Mini was initially geared more for underwater use, its role and popularity as a ruggedized ‘selfie stick’ makes complete sense,” said Joshua Gilmour, SeaLife’s marketing manager. “The selfie stick has become immensely popular over the past year, and the AquaPod Mini offers the durability and design for multiple uses in all climates and conditions.”

The AquaPod Mini is available at SeaLife dealers for a suggested retail price of $49.95. The original SeaLife AquaPod, which measures 18 inches when retracted and 53 inches when fully extended, is available for a suggested retail price of $69.95. Both AquaPods mount all cameras with a standard 1/4-20 tripod mount and include adapters for GoPro cameras.
