It wasn’t too many years ago that salt was pretty much the only mineral option deer hunters were aware of for whitetail deer. Things have changed in the last 10-15 years and there’s now a plethora of mineral options on the market for deer hunters wanting to strengthen their local deer herds.

If you haven’t done it already, now is the time to get minerals out for the deer on your hunting properties. Deer need, and crave, mineral licks for enhanced growth. The products below offer a simple solution to help hunters make things happen for a healthier deer herd on the properties they hunt.

Heartland Wildlife Whitetail Antler Magic

The Heartland Wildlife Company has risen to be a leader in the industry providing products for food plots, minerals, attractants, and wildlife feed. The company offers a great option for anyone wanting to improve the quality of the deer on their land with their Whitetail Antler Magic mineral. The guys at Heartland Wildlife recommend Whitetail Antler Magic mineral licks being placed in appropriate locations and in sufficient numbers to ensure adequate access.

Getting Started

When establishing new mineral licks, you may need to establish several and then select the most active to be continued. The desired number of licks is one lick per 30 – 50 acres for free ranging deer. Hunters are wise to place licks near secluded well-traveled areas and bedding locations. Old scrapes work extremely well. Deer prefer to consume Whitetail Antler Magic mixed in clay based soils. The strong apple flavoring and scent will help deer locate the licks and promote use.

Whitetail Antler Magic was designed to produce healthier deer on the properties you hunt.

As you’ll see below. Today’s mineral products, like Whitetail Antler Magic, offer much more than just salt.

Whitetail Institute 30-O6 Plus Protein

Another great product helping hunters provide a healthier deer herd is Whitetail Institute’s 30-06 Plus Protein. 30-06 Plus Protein delivers essential macro and trace minerals along with vitamins A, D, and E, plus protein needed for a healthy herd and for bucks to reach more of their genetic potential in antler growth. 30-06 Plus Protein is a true, professionally formulated, high quality mineral and vitamin supplement – not a glorified salt lick. Whitetail Institute’s exclusive scent and flavor enhancer draws deer to 30-06 Plus Protein quickly and consistently.

Make your mineral licks wider instead of deeper for maximum use by the whole herd.

Mark Trudeau of Whitetail Institute says, now is the time to get your mineral out in the woods. “With the last of the bucks dropping their antlers, and does producing fawns, your deer herds need mineral now more than ever,” says Trudeau. The diameter of mineral licks should also be spread out to create wider, not deeper, mineral lick locations. “More deer will use the lick if it is spread out,” says Trudeau. “And you also don’t want rain water or run-off to collect in your mineral lick. Deer will avoid such spots until they can scratch the ground void of standing water.” Trudeau also recommends not putting your mineral licks in your food plots. “The chemicals used in your food plots will contaminate your mineral licks and make them unattractive to deer. Instead, place licks in thicker timber along trails and high-traffic areas.”

Spring is finally here! Make things happen with better deer development by adding minerals to the mix this season.
