How good of a deer hunter are you? Think you got the stuff to beat those guys and gals you see on TV? Well, why don’t you put your money where your mouth is then? Why don’t you show the world just how great you are?
If you said “yes” to most or all of those questions above then the American Whitetail Authority (AWA) Whitetail Pro Series is looking for you. Or maybe you just know someone who thinks they are, no matter, the AWA wants them too.
What is the AWA? It’s a newly released tournament trail in which hunters from around the country are competing for honors of the greatest deer hunter in the world. It’s true! AWA founder and creator, Greg Koch, hopes to gather momentum by cruising the North American countryside looking for “average Joes” with above average hunting strategies.
The 53 year old Okie, Koch, believes past attempts at starting deer hunting competitions simply failed because hunters were not pleased with the results of taking a live animal. The AWA is going to change all that. Competing hunters don’t actually kill deer in this tournament trail. Instead, they use a digital riflescope to take down the buck they’re after. A digital image is then captured, and voila, no deer are injured. The hunter with consistent enough success is ultimately the winner. A kind of catch-and-release if you will… only less fun.
Yes, we realize the above picture has got nothing to do with the AWA, but we thought it was the only type of hunting competition we wanted to see.
The AWA Whitetail Pro Series competition will have four regional finals, two each in the northern and southern regions. Ten hunters will be selected from each of the regional finals, for a total of 40 competitors. States have not been finally selected yet for the regional finals.
From the regional finals three competitors will be invited to the nationals, which take place on the Oklahoma ranch Koch personally manages. All competitors will be responsible for their travels, lodging and food. Which begs us here at Bowhunting.Com to ask the question, what’s in this for hunters then?
