The annual whitetail rut pushes buck deer to do crazy things. They are laser-focused on one thing at this time of the year – chasing and breeding does. It’s for this reason that you’ll see them in some of the craziest places. It’s not uncommon to see a rutty buck chasing does through crowded neighborhoods, busy streets, and mall parking lots. They can seemingly lose their mind when it comes to their behavior during the rut.
You never know what you’ll see when you encounter a rutty buck in the wild.
It’s why you see a significant increase in dead deer on the side of the road from October-December. The number of deer-vehicle collisions skyrocket at this time of the year.
