I can’t think of anyone that was more excited for their September elk hunt this year than BHOD prostaffer, Dan Richardson. We caught up with Dan, when he finally made it back home to Indiana, to hear the story of his Colorado bull.
Dan had a summer full of planning and preparing for what he hoped would be the hunt of a lifetime in pursuit of his own Colorado bull.
As is so often the case, despite all Dan’s efforts to prepare for the hunt, things didn’t exactly go like he and his crew had hoped once arriving in elk camp.
“It was a struggle to get into the action,” says Richardson. “Later in the week, we finally began to see and hear some elk, but the wind continued to be a deal breaker. A week into the hunt we had a bull fired up and coming in. It looked like it was finally going to happen. Then out of nowhere, a satellite bull came crashing in to 35 yards. I wasn’t about to pass this opportunity up! I made the shot hitting the bull in the spine. He dropped right where he stood. I couldn’t believe what just happened.
My first bull, a 4×4, rounded out one grand day packed with a roller coaster of emotions.
