Sturgill Strikes on Early Season Deer in WY

By Bow StaffSeptember 20, 2016

Bowhunt or Die team member, Josh Sturgill, continues to punch early season deer tags. This time, in Wyoming with good friend, Dustin Decroo, and Big Horn Outfitters. Josh just wrapped up a week of chasing bucks on some of the hottest early season deer hunting ground you’ll find anywhere in the country.

“We had a tremendous amount of deer on us all week,” says Sturgill. “I saw more deer in 5 days of hunting with Dustin than I’ve seen in 10 years back home.”

Josh played cat and mouse with the deer herd for the first part of the week. He was down to the last couple days and figured he’d better seal the deal on a Wyoming buck. On the next to the last hunt Sturgill was setup in a creek bottom along a trail leading in and out of the alfalfa fields. Josh watched a beautiful 10 pointer feeding in the alfalfa field before heading his way. The buck left the field along a trail that led to within 27 yards of Josh’s stand. When the buck got broadside, Josh made the shot, bringing his Wyoming deer hunt to a close.

Josh made good with an opportunity on a great buck on the next to the last night of his hunt in Wyoming.

This is the first buck killed by the BHOD team for the 16/17 hunting season. A big congrats to Josh on a great deer!

Be watching for all the western whitetail action coming soon on an upcoming episode of Bowhunt or Die.
