Food Plot Products for 2016

By Bow StaffJanuary 11, 2016

Creating food plots for whitetail deer is both rewarding and fun. It’s truly a labor of love. It’s like working a garden…except you get to pick backstraps at harvest time instead of tomatoes. The flood plot industry continues to grow with each passing year, bringing a plethora of new items designed to draw and hold whitetail deer. Here’s a look at what you’ll find for 2016.

DeerGro

There’s two great new products from the folks at DeerGro. First, is PlotStart, a calcium based spray for use on food plots, crops, vegetables, trees, and lawns. Boosts plant growth and increases crude protein levels in some plants. And the products allows the use of less fertilizer annually. PlotStart also withstands harsh environmental conditions while improving efficiency of water use by plant, which allows them to thrive in dry conditions.

Deer Gro (Large)

PlotBoost is a spray for the same uses as PlotStart. PlotBoost increases pH levels while providing more essential nutrients for antler and body growth of deer. PlotBoost can be applied via a sprayer either on tilled or untilled ground and withstands harsh environmental conditions.

Killer Food Plots

First off, Cold Play attracts healthy bugs, turkey’s #1 food source. The product contains greens and seeds turkeys love and this perennial food source will last 3 to 5 years. It is a blend of: KFP White Clover, KFP Alfalfa, KFP Winter Peas, Ladino Clover, Buckwheat, and Dixie Crimson Clover.

Killer Food Plots (Large)Lethal Winter Oats is a high energy food source for both deer and turkey. The product produces quickly in poor quality soils and only needs minimal sunlight, making it a great option for those tucked away hidey holes or kill plots.

New in the G2 lineup from Real Deal is Cover Screen. A annual spring and summer blend that creates a wall around your G2 food plots and gives your whitetails a sense of security while feeding. The 5lb bag covers 1.25 acres.

Imperial FUSION: A premium food plot mix of Imperial Clover plus the added benefit of their exclusive WINA Chicory, Engineered for the forage production all year, even during droughty conditions in the hot/dry summer months. As with all their products, there’s been a lot of research and testing for this product to hit the market. It’s another great tool in your bag of tricks for creating a strong, healthy herd.

Big TineBig Tine Protein Plus Bag (Large)

New for 2016 from Big Tine is Protein Plus. This 25# bag is loaded with roasted soybeans and includes essential fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6. Concentrated with even more Whitetail Institute Imperial 30-06 mineral/vitamin supplement containing 11 minerals found in whitail antlers.

Heartland Wildlife Rack Maker Extreme

Another great new option for 2016 from Heartland Wildlife is their Rack Maker Extreme food plot seed. Rack Maker Extreme is engineered to be planted during early fall to serve as a late fall/early winter hunting plot, yet it will remain palatable to deer after the hunting seasons have ended due to frost-tolerant ingredients that offer a different peak attraction period, providing deer activity through all hunting seasons.

A calculated blend of winter oats, winter rye and forage soybeans—and the Rack Maker Brassicas mix—creates unmatched attraction power.

Rack Maker Extreme rings up at  $36.95.
