Media Q & A with Matt McPherson

The Bowhunting.com staff had the opportunity to sit in on a media meeting with Matt McPherson of Mathews as he shared some information about the new 2015 bow line, as well as a little on the background of Mathews bows. McPherson admits that his bow concept and design in the early years actually came from an encounter with an old-school BMW motorcycle in the 70’s. The opposing forces of the motorcyle’s cylindar design is what originally fueled the idea of what would one day become a bow design from Mathews.

Matt McPherson addresses outdoor media and Mathews dealers during a Q&A session.

Why the significant changes in bow design in Mathews bows for 2015?

“I don’t get stuck on something if there’s something better,” says McPherson. “Left, right, up, and down…the NO CAM is dead center, resulting in a much more stable bow. Our goal was to create the most accurate and efficient bow ever designed. We’ve done that with the NO CAM. Harness the energy that’s there and use it to your advantage. The efficiency of the NO CAM is between 86% and 89%. It really is a bow you gotta shoot to believe how well it performs.”

Accuracy VS. Speed?

“The NO CAM was not designed as a speed bow. We’ve made speed bows. They were never our best selling bows. Accuracy has always been what sold more bows for us. The NO CAM was designed for accuracy, repeatability, and quietness. These features aren’t found in most speed bows. Speed without accuracy simply allows you to miss your target faster. The NO CAM is the most accurate bow ever designed.”

Monster Wake Bow

“The Monster Wake is the fastest 85% let-off bow in the world and it’s an absolute pleasure to shoot. We’ve shot our competitors speed bows. They are often rough on the shot, and even worse when coming to full draw. The incredibly tight tolerances and wide, flat limbs on the Wake make it more stable than other speed bows. Like the NO CAM, the Wake is an extremely efficient bow.”

Mathews Monster Wake LimbsMatt McPherson makes no apologies for the new Monster Wake.  He understands a $1,700 bow with a 5 inch brace height isn’t for everyone.  However for those looking for the highest quality and most innovative “speed” bow in the world, the Wake certainly fits the bill.  At 352 fps it is the fastest 85% let-off bow in the world.

Mission MXB-SNIPER LITE

“Our Desire with the MXB-SNIPER LITE was to build the best all-around hunting crossbow. Unlike a lot of the other crossbows available, the MXB-SNIPER LITE is incredibly easy to draw and is much lighter. We reduced a lot of the weight from the front of the bow making it much easier to hold and shoot free-hand. The MXB-SNIPER LITE weighs less than 6 pounds and is what we feel is the most accurate crossbow at any price.”

MXB Sniper Lite CrossbowAt under 6 lbs the Sniper Lite is one of the lightest crossbows on the market and is designed to balance, swing, hold and fire better than any crossbow on the market.

Matt McPherson on Life

“Life is not a video game. There are no do-overs. Our Mathews team simply wants to do what we should be doing in life. As a family of faith, I’ve asked God to give us the things to enable us to do more for others…and He simply continues to bless the work we do. We believe it’s very important to make a difference in the lives of others.”
