The Midwestern state of Iowa has long been known as a whitetail buck hunters dream! At the center of our nations corn-belt region, Iowa continues to prosper year after year with amazing whitetail hunts and giant mega whitetail bucks being taken! The year 2008 was no different for this state as it produced several inconceivable whitetail bucks including, what appears to be, the new number 2 on this states all-time record list!

On December 6th, while hunting Iowa's first shotgun season near the little town of Bedford, deer hunter Chris Wood was able to connect with one of this states once in a lifetime bucks. While sitting post during a deer drive with fellow friends and co-workers, Chris shot the whitetail buck no more than 60 yards from himself! Can you imagine seeing this giant buck just 60 yards from yourself?! All 33 points of him!

The buck, according to the story, was following a small group of does while Chris was standing just inside the timber waiting for action. After the shot, the buck fell within Chris' sight about 40 yards further! The Taylor county, Iowa giant had 33 score able points including a lengthy droptine!

The Chris Wood buck green scored at 264 0/8"! If this incredible non-typical buck story stands it may become Iowa's 2nd largest buck ever harvested by a deer hunter! The current non-typical Iowa state record, the famous Albia buck, was taken from Monroe County by a 15 year old deer hunter in 2003. The Albia buck scored 307 5/8".
Our congratulations to deer hunter Chris Wood on taking this giant Midwestern whitetail buck! If you know or have any more information on this Iowa giant please contact the Bowhunting.com staff at [email protected].
