Do you retire your arrows routinely or just when you can detect a structural problem?

As long as you are routinely inspecting your arrows for blemishes, you can basically use them until they break. A lot of people like "retiring" an arrow after shooting an animal with it. But one of our Bowhunt or Die team members, Dan Richardson, has actually shot 11 animals with the same arrow shaft over the last few years!

I usually don't retire an arrow until there's something physically wrong with it whether it's broken, splintered, or lost in most cases. I see no reason in retiring a perfectly good arrow just because you shot an animal with it. Wash off the blood, or don't, and get out there and shoot more animals with it!
