Who’s the best turkey hunter of all time?
It’s the one question that seemed to stump our friends and favorite turkey hunters the most when we made the rounds at this year’s NWTF Show in Nashville.
With the exception of Jimmy Primos, most of the guys struggled to nail down who could possibly be labeled the best turkey hunter of all time. It’s a tough one! There’s been a lot of legendary turkey hunters to walk the spring woods.

Who Are The Best Turkey Hunters?
It’s been said that opinions are like elbows – most everybody seems to have a couple of them. And this is certainly the case when it comes to opinions on the best turkey hunter of all time.
We made the rounds at the 2024 NWTF Show and asked a number of turkey hunters who they thought was the best turkey hunter of all time.
Who made the list?
As seen in the video above, some of the top picks included: Tom Kelly, Harold Knight, Eddie Salter, Will Primos, Ben Rodgers Lee, and David Hale.
Ben Rodgers Lee is known as the father of modern day turkey hunting and calling. He was a rare breed, bringing the game call and hunting video industry to life with some of the most nostalgic products you’ll find anywhere.
Sadly, Lee was killed in a car wreck in October of 1991, leaving behind a rich legacy of turkey and deer hunting for the hunters following in his footsteps.
Colonel Tom Kelly is a legend among turkey hunters. Many hunters are quick to label him as one of the best turkey hunters of all time. He’s the author of The Tenth Legion, a book some consider the turkey hunter’s Bible. Now in his 90s, Kelly is in the late season of life, but continues to inspire countless turkey hunters every spring.
