Deer season is over in West Virginia, so why would a man be transporting a deer down the road? Even more concerning, why was the deer dangling from the man’s car door as he dragged it down the road?
Yes, the incident took place in West Virginia, and while this may be common practice for some of our friends in West Virginia, it was enough to cause local law enforcement to take action.
In fact, the man with the deer dangling from his driver-side door went on to lead a two-county police chase across Jackson and Mason counties.

The incident took place Thursday, February 20, when ultimately 3 agencies partnered up to stop the 63-year-old driver near the Ohio state line.
“Following a snow-covered road pursuit that began in Mason County, a driver has been arrested following a call for service involving him dragging a deer carcass up the road dangling from the driver’s side door,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
“He had secured the carcass utilizing the driver’s seat belt prior to engaging in the vehicle pursuit with law enforcement. Some things you just can’t make up in this line of work.”
The determined driver was ultimately brought to a halt by well-placed spike strips in the road that punctured his tires. He was charged with fleeing from an officer in a vehicle according to Mason County jail records.
It’s unclear whether the man killed the deer, or simply found it as road kill and decided to take it home.
The story proves once again that West Virginia is truly, Wild & Wonderful.
