Age This Buck #47

I’ll be the first to admit, it is hard to look at anything else but the rack on this buck! with long main beams, and great tine length out to his G3’s and G4’s this buck is hands down an impressive one.

Looking at the body of this buck, his neck is a similar size to his chest indicating he’s of an older age class. His gut however does not show the sag of an old old buck, along with legs that are not quite shorter than his body. While this buck is definitely mature, he may not be as old as you think.

The nose on this buck is beginning to slope downward, but no sway in its back or drop in its belly is evident. Its neck is as big as its chest cavity, and there is a considerable amount of loose skin at the sternum. This is an exceptional five-year-old.

5.5. He’s a stud, for sure. His body says 4.5 to me, but that rack says 5.5. I’m going with the rack.

One heck of a deer. He's at least 4.5 years old based on that rectangular body, but he doesn't have the swayed back or sagging belly that you might expect on a 5.5 plus. That said, this is late in November and the rut has likely wore this deer down quite a bit. I'm going to bet on 5.5 and assume he lost some of that typical mature buck girth while chasing does
