I’m a professional law enforcement K9 Handler and through being such I can tell you a dog’s nose and a deer’s nose are almost identical. Although I love this licking branch/scrape idea and plan to try it, I feel obligated to tell you there is no way to “cover up” your scent. An analogy I often use is the ‘vegetable stew’ comparison. If a person smells a pot of vegetable stew they will usually detect the sum total of the concoction. We may pick out a few of the stronger ingredients like onions and peppers but for the most part we don’t have that innate ability. Conversely, if a deer smells that same pot of stew it can detect and isolate each individual smell simultaneously. Most studies show dogs and deer can detect over 100 scents individually and simultaneously.

So, to summarize for you… You touching an object and then spraying a urine cover scent simply lays down two different odors for your buck to smell. You would have been better off spraying it with some sort of bacterial killer. Scent can surely be eliminated but it cannot be covered unless what your are using overwhelms the olfactory organ and in essence shuts it down. Great video though. I appreciate all you guys produce!

My concerns are that you guys are using that Round Up with out the proper protection. I can cause cancer. A man named Dewayne Johnson just won a major law suite because Round Up didn’t give proper notice that it could give users cancers. The judgement lost by Round Up, was 289 million dollars. I just feel you guys should cover up bare skin and use face masks not to breath that stuff. Always spray it down wind to be safe. I hope you guys head my warnings here on out. Also, maybe see a doctor.

    • Paul – thank you for the information. I saw the results of that case shortly after this episode aired and it certainly made all of us pay attention to using the proper personal protective equipment when using any chemical/herbicide. Admittedly it’s been something we’ve been lax on in recent years. That certainly won’t be happening again.

Thanks Justin. I hope you guys are safe in your spraying endeavors. Keep up the good work. I know you are a good shots, but cut it back to 25 and 30 yards, and angling away or just let them walk for another day. Good shooting.
