By developerMarch 17, 2016

US and International response from educators and coaches to NASP®’s new Academic Archer program continues to grow and is now over 5000 students entered into the program – 5,386 to be exact! To date, educators from 36 US states and two Canadian Provinces have implemented the NASP® Academic Archer Program with their students.

Since its inception in 2002, NASP® has always aimed to become a motivating force and provide safe access to the shooting sports for students in grades 4-12.  For fifteen years now, teachers have noted that NASP® improves student focus, attention, motivation, behavior, and motor skills.  The Academic Archer program provides a way to acknowledge students who have also achieved stellar academic marks.

“We are very excited about the fresh emphasis that NASP® is making on the academic relevance of the program.  Teachers and Coaches obviously want to use AA to motivate and recognize their high achieving students, and motivate others that need a little push,” said NASP® President Roy Grimes.

Dr. Tommy Floyd – NASP® Vice President and General Manager said, “We are indeed excited that Academic Archer is becoming so popular across the US and Canada.  We now have started receiving requests for student recognition patches and even parent vehicle decals recognizing the student archers that excel in the classroom.  NASP® continues to be a motivator for many as we extend the classroom onto the archery range.”

As recommended by the NASP® Student and Educator Advisory Council back in November of 2015, Academic Archer recently launched on the NASP® website and was designed to provide a platform for local schools to use in-school archery as a motivator for classroom achievement. “Imagine the excitement at NASP® nationals when these archers are recognized for their academic prowess!”
