The 2022 Lancaster Classic wrapped up over the weekend and as always, it was a blast! Unfortunately, we didn’t have anyone shooting in it this year so the first few days we just hung out in our booth and got to watch some of the best archers in the world.
But the final shoot-ups were filled with tons of action and lots of great shooting. Take a look at how it went down in our video below…
Thanks to everybody who stopped by the booth to say hi, and a big thank you to all the folks over at Lancaster Archery Supply that help put this shoot on. We always look forward to coming back every year, and we can’t wait to head back out there in 2023.
As for this year, we had some familiar faces make it to the elimination round for the Bowhunter class. After the LAS Classic was cancelled last year, a lot of shooters were eager to get back this year and put their mark on this event.
A newcomer was able to make his mark this year while shooting at the Classic for only his 2nd time. Dakota Smith qualified 1st going into the shoot-ups for the Bowhunter class after scoring 1,022 out of 1,056 total points through the qualification and elimination rounds.
But his path to 1st place would have to go through 2019 Bowhunter Class winner, Andy Hunnell. After a great first 3 ends, Andy was up by 1 going into the last shots. He went first and shot an 11, meaning that Dakota had to call a 12 and hit it.
After almost forgetting to click the 12 button, he tapped it with his foot then proceeded to hit the 1.5cm 12-point circle, sending it to a shootout.
With Andy still in the “leader” position, he chose to shoot first and promptly drilled an 11. Dakota then stepped up and put one right on the 10/11 line. After further review from the referee, it was called a 10 and Andy was announced as the winner.
Congrats to Andy Hunnell on his 2nd time winning the Bowhunter class of the Lancaster Classic.
If you’re interested in attending or even shooting the Lancaster Classic next year, sign-ups usually open around the beginning of October. So make sure you’re following both Bowhunt or Die and Lancaster Archery Supply on social media to keep up with announcements.
