Indiana Man Slashes Buck's Throat!

by Bow Staff 21. September 2010 09:44
Bow Staff

An Indiana man is currently being investigated for slashing the throat of a ten year old whitetail buck named Anthony. The incident occurred at a small petting zoo within Hidden Paradise Campground, located near St. Paul.

Witnesses there watched a man scale a 10 foot fence before landing on the other side and promptly grabbing the deer by the antlers and shoving his face into the ground and eventually cutting the throat of the buck. Interestingly enough, the man, identified as Andrew Sweet is claiming self-defense. Claiming the deer attacked him unprovoked.

While Mr. Sweet was not arrested and charges have not yet been filed, investigators are looking into what caused the provoked attack by the whitetail inside the fence that Sweet had to climb 10 feet to get over.

The buck, Anthony, remains in good condition despite the enormous gash in his lower neck.

The staff here at Bowhunting.Com wants to know how you feel about the above incident. Do you believe the buck provoked the attack? Do you believe Mr. Sweet should have charges filed against him? We want to know!  Please leave your comments below. Thank you.

People are crazy. I dont understand why the guy would ever climb the 10 foot fence in the first place. I also dont understand why the owners of the deer did not press charges. Is there a charge for stupidity?

This is essentially a pet ! A harmless creature created by God. This man needs to be given a harsh sentence and made to pay the maximum fine! God only knows what would happen if I EVER witnessed anything like this happen! People today are cowards to not face down these disgusting sadists like this person!

Dan;
To charge the owner with neglect is going to going to prove what?? If that happens then if some one illegaly enters my house and harms my dog, will I be at fault? That would be NUTS!! The person that scaled the fence should have never been in there, he is at fault. I agree that the deer should receive medical attention .... at the intruders expense.

Yes charge him but I dont think you should have a. Deer in a pen at all.I am a hunter and I think people that cage deer are as bad as the guy climbing the fence... So put him in jail for 3-5 years get that deer some med. Help and release him then outlaw fenceing in deer.

What a douche! Of course he should be charged. Let see he climbed a TEN FOOT fence. I doubt the deer charged and if he did..maybe it was in his own self defense. Why aren't they tranquilizing it and stitching the neck.

In most states cruelty to animals is a felony.  Charge him, self defense can't be reasoning unless of course the buck climbed the fence first to get to him, then back again.

First,  it doesn't matter if this deer was in a fence as a pet or not.  Every animal species has been wild at one point or another.  Dogs and cats were wild animals but are now known for being pets because people made them that way.

As far as Mr. Sweet goes,  this is an absolutely disgusting and senseless act of violence.  I believe he should face jail time, not 30 days but more along the lines of years in jail.  If somebody is messed up enough to climb a 10 foot fence just to slice a deers throat then IMO they don't belong in society.

As far as why the deer hasn't been stitched up... I am not sure, possibly this was a photo that was taken right after the incident and the deer recieved medical attention right after this.  If the deer has indeed not been taken care of, I hope the owners recieve a swift penalty as well.

What a scumb bag...... did he think he would be a big man if he cut the throat of a tame deer........ i hope he goes to prison and gets "married" there..... HA serves him right.
as far as the owners they really need to have that looked at, just as cruel to not give medical attenion to a penned animal that was hurt on their watch..... NO responsibilities these days.....the government is making a fine example for our kids to live by........ NOT

First of all, self defense on the other side of a fence? That is the first thing that the idiot could think of to say when asked "Why?"...Second, the Deer isn't receiving treatment and no charges are being pressed b/c the owners do not have a permit or can't afford the cost, either way, they are don't need the deer. If I was present during this, the news story would have been different, "Man receives beat down inside a deer pen at a petting zoo...Details at 11"

I agree with Travis that common sense would of told the man not to climb the fence, and  that a better excuse should of been thought up before  attempting to pull this off. On the other hand I can understand  why the owners have not treated the deer though. I mean think about it if it will attack a man holding  a knife it has to be crazy enough to attack anyone.

I think that the act is so wrong that it does not even deserve our comments. All we are doing is extending his 10 seconds of idiotic fame.
Can anyone find out if the deer has been treated? Is he o.k. ?

Oh yeah...this buck had it coming.  Sitting behind the fence, my rack is bigger than yours...oh that's right, you don't have a rack.  Come and get me big guy if you can get over this fence.  Mr Sweet reacted the way any sane and pridefull man would.  Put that buck in his place.  In defence of the buck's actions, Mr Sweet shouldn't have been wearing the tinks 69.  Its not everyday cologne.  I say put Mr Sweet behind the fence for ten years.  Maybe he'll become more sympathetic to the buck's attitude.

O.k, if this dumb ass was to climb a fence at a zoo and slash an animals throat there surely would be charges! What if someone climbed a fence and slashed a family pets throat there would be charges.

There was absolutely no reason for him to climb the fence and do that.. if the deer on the one side and that guy is on the other how was it an attack?? if anything he provoked it by climbing the fence!

first of all at zoos all the time they said dont stick your fingers in the fence does that mean put your whole body in... NO! and another question is why did he have a knife on him..... i think for him to climb a fence that high with a knife on him is bonehead move and he went in there looking for a deer to cut

The guy should get some charges filed because that's ridicules to stab a deer in the throat at a petting zoo. I think that guy needs to be seen by a doctor because if he thinks that the deer provoked him behind a 10 ft fence then he is crazy.

Yes, I belive charges should be filed. He climbed the fence and into the pin just to harm this magnificent creature. How the heck could that buck harm him through a fence unless the buck was provoked. this guy sounds like a whack job !!!! I feel sorry for that deer and hope some vet techs are helping heal this wound and that the buck will be ok. it's one thing if it was in the timber out in the wild but this deer is a pet for cryin' out loud. What a roosterfish !!!
