The Debutante Hunters Wins Award for Best Short Film

The Sundance Film Festival is often considered the greatest collection of risky storytelling told through the big screen. So named after the mountains in Utah where it was founded, and the man who founded it – Hollywood icon Robert Redford. More or less, there may not be a more liberal venue in the entire world.

However, a short film entitled, “The Debutante Hunters” is changing all of that. Recently winning the audience award for best short film, this more conservative documentary follows a group of southern belles as they share their unbridled passion for the outdoors and yes – all things hunting.

Produced and directed by Maria White, the women portray hunting as it was meant to be seen with the grace and passion only women can freely demonstrate. For them, hunting is something passed on from generation to generation and each time they hunt, whether they take an animal or not – they show great gratitude just for the opportunity.

The short film itself is a breath of fresh air in a male dominated sport where we often push and shove for who the best hunter is or how big of a buck he took. These ladies hunt to feed their families the healthier, richer meat that nature intended – and they do it with style.

Don’t take our word for it however, watch for yourself and let us know what you think.
