Mountain Lion Stumbles onto Elk Hunter!

by Bow Staff 14. October 2010 11:21
Bow Staff

Colorado elk hunter, Sven Ghoulie, got the surprise of a lifetime on a recent trip to New Mexico. While his buddy was snapping a few mementos of a most triumphant hunt, a full grown mountain lion wandered into view! Rumor has it Sven and his buddies escaped the dangerous encounter without injury, but were a little shaken.  It is unclear what happened to the mountain lion or the elk.

Okay… the above story is completely inaccurate and completely false. But this photo is currently circling the usual internet channels and likely soon to an email near you. Don’t be fooled by the short story that follows it though, it’s surprisingly worse than the one we wrote above. Hard to believe I know.

The Bowhunting.Com staff is interested in your opinion though. Do you believe this photo is real or fake, fact or fiction? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please leave your comments below! Thank you!

If you look at the angle of the hunter and the elk on the down slope you can tell that they cat was incerted into the picture.  In no way is that cat standing like that on a slope.

I dont like the reflection in the cats eyes, does not seem natural. I think this is either a doctored photo, or a staged scene with a mounted cat placed behind the hunter. I have seen both bobcats and mountain lions at night, and the eyes always glow green/yellow not bright yellow. I suspect glass or acrylic.

bunch of CSI dorks arent you... who cares if its real or not you guys feed these jerks with all your blogs about how people have too much time on their hands or silly stuff like that. who cares its funny and actually very possible... unlikely but possible. rather than feeding the insatiable need for people to doctor up some photo to get their 15 minutes of fame... how about a simple "interesting" and drop it and move on with your life. opening day in alabama started this week end and if i could legally hunt at night i would...

Look at the hunters hand, the hunter himself has been photoshopped in this picture, his grip around the elks antler doesn't look real it looks as if he took a picture with his hand up and placed himself behind this elk.

his binoculars look fake and i thing he has false teeth... this picture is so fake. those bushes are not native to each other and therefore this picture cant be real. the twig in the front of the picture isnt casting the the right shadow onto the elk... is the elk fake or the bush???

well here in ames iowa we know it to be fact.
it is one of our respected towns members.
yes there are lots of cut up stories attached to this , but he actually took hte picture hisself.
set the timer and got ready the camra went of just as he picked up the elks head when hte camra went off, he was in a hurry to get back to camp and grab some help.
he didn't know the cat was even in the picture until he got back to camp and viewed the camra, h and his companions were shocked to see the cat.
he went back to the kill with his hunting budies to retreve it and found the cat had gutted it and rolled it down the hill about 25 feet.
tried to cover it up with leaves and trash.
so he says.
i'm like you i think its dubbed.......
look at the shadow lines across the cat they indicate the flash came in from a diffrent angle.
eye flash is two blured
also dubbed.
typ cat eyes glow red or blue,./
some times yellow if you have a zoo around you place go check it out in the evenings.
whats that cat standing on?
any way it is or was started by this guys brother.
now its up to you if you think it is fact.

There must be more to that first link. Why would a image named cougarattack.jpg be a pic of someone showing off a dead elk? Where is the cougar that the name "cougarattack" implies would be there?
