White Knuckle Productions – The Great Divide DVD Review

White Knuckle Productions - The Great DivideThe line between passion and obsession is often a thin one, and depending on who you talk to Todd Pringnitz of White Knuckle Productions could land on either side at any given time. Some say he’s crazy while others say he’s driven. One thing is for sure though; if you enjoy watching hardcore bowhunters dedicate their time, energy and often their blood to the pursuit of giant whitetails then The Great Divide is a must watch. It will make you laugh, it will make you yell, and it may even make you cry. Just be sure not to let your buddies see you or you’ll never hear the end of it.

In the purpose of full disclosure, I’ve known Todd Pringnitz since we first met at the ATA show way back in 2005. (Man, where have the last 8 years gone??) So admittedly my opinion is slightly biased when it comes to this review. I suppose you should take that with a grain of salt, or an entire shaker if you prefer.

With that being said, if you’ve been around any of the popular hunting forums over the past 6 years, or attended one of the many Deer & Turkey Expos throughout the Midwest you’ve likely encountered Todd and any number of his motley crew. White Knuckle Productions DVD series was began with one dream, and that was to show the entire season as it unfolds. No fake re-enactments, no outfitters, no in-your-face product plugs, just pure, unadultered bowhunting. Much to Todd’s credit that dream is not just merely alive but thriving in “The Great Divide”.

The first of this 2 disc DVD set follows Todd, a Michigan native who up and moved to Iowa solely to hunt big whitetails, through the journey of his season from start to finish. You’ll get an instant feel for Todd’s excitable personality and dedication during shed hunting season which is carried through to the quest for a buck he calls Barry Sanders. Of course it’s hard to spoil the ending when there’s a picture of Todd with a monster buck on the cover of the DVD, but rest assured this is one of the more endearing stories to ever play out in front of a camera.

However, Todd’s season doesn’t end here. In an even crazier twist, and one that may leave you questioning his overall mental health, Todd has some incredible late season hunts. The story of one man’s season is one you won’t soon forget.

The second disc follows the rest of the WKP crew through their seasons as well. At times I question whether Todd’s intensity rubs off on the rest of his team, or if the old saying ‘birds of a feather flock together’ applies to the craziest of the deer hunters as well. Whichever it is, the 2nd DVD of the Great Divide entitled “Every Man’s Season” features a plethora of exciting, up close and personal, bow hunts. While not every hunt ends with the way it’s written about in magazines, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more down to earth, real life group of people who live and breathe whitetail hunting.

So if you’ve got a few hours, and a few bucks, to spare I would recommend picking up a copy of The Great Divide. Something tells me you won’t be disappointed.
