Shoot a bow long enough and eventually you’ll have an encounter with a beast named, Target Panic. It creeps in when you least expect it, and lingers about as long as you’ll allow. Target panic is of the devil. You must overcome it if you’re to experience consistent archery accuracy.

In the video below, Levi Morgan gives one of the best descriptions of what target panic is and how you can begin the process to overcoming its grasp.

Accepting the Movement

Accepting the movement is the key to getting your mind wrapped around the panic that haunts your shot. Target panic is very much a mind game. You have to admit you have a problem, and be willing to accept a solution. Accepting the movement is a first step.

How is that done?

Focus On the Middle – Remember to let everything blur as you focus on the middle.

Don’t Stop Executing – Don’t let your shot break down just because your pin floats off target. Continue executing the shot with confidence.

The Movement Returns – The reason you can have confidence in the continuation of your shot execution is that the movement returns. Despite your pin wondering off the dot, it will return with its next movement.

What about you? Have you struggled with target panic? What is your go-to method of getting over the hump and back to shooting consistently once again?

Comment below and let us know what you’ve tried in the past to cure target panic.
