After roosting some longbeards on the 19th Eric called Chris up to see if he could go film him the next morning. Chris had a business meeting and could not reschedule so Eric decided to try and film the hunt himself. Now this, as everyone knows, is no easy task but Eric pulled it off two years ago with a Va. buck so he thought he would give it a shot.
With the Elite bow in hand Eric went to a farm he calls the "Diamond Farm" and set the blind up in a foodplot near the roost sight. He placed a hen decoy out he calls Gertrude and a Gobbler decoy and began some light calls with the Flextone Tramp Stamp slate call. It wasn't long before big boy showed up and put on a show at 20 yds. Eric got nearly five minutes of footage of the gobbler in strut before attempting the shot. The first time Eric drew his bow his elbow hit the back of the blind and popped. This of course took the gobbler out of strut and on his way out of there. Eric hit the call a few times and the old longbeard headed back in.
This time Eric got the bow back quietly and made the shot at 32 yds. The entire hunt was on film and is some awesome footage, especially since he filmed it himself. This is Eric's first bird down for the year and he says he was glad he was able to get one down in his home state of Virginia.
