Horton is always astounding its customers with new gear every year. This year is no different. At the ATA Show, they unveiled a few new bows for this year. Check out one of them, the Storm RDX.

Newly formed manufacturer, Horton Crossbow Innovations™, unveiled its inaugural two-model crossbow lineup at the 2015 ATA Show in Indianapolis on January 8, 2015. Rick Bednar, Horton’s President, Chairman, and CEO, said that the company’s long-term objective is “… to produce a lineup of highly effective, reliable, and affordable crossbows for hunters of all ages and physical abilities.”

Horton Storm RDX

Headlining the introduction is the innovative Storm RDX™, the lightest, shortest, and narrowest reverse draw technology crossbow currently on the market.

“We were blown away during the test phase of producing this bow,” said Bednar. “All of our design and engineering work really paid off. It is remarkably balanced, compact, and quiet. But, I think our customers will be most impressed with how smooth it performs. I do not believe there is a better reverse draw crossbow on the market today.”

The foundation of the Storm RDX’s stock assembly is its lightweight, three-piece ABX™ (Adjustable Bullpup Crossbow) butt stock and barrel receiver. The high-tech stock is molded from PlastiComp® Complēt® and features an adjustable cheek piece and butt plate. The rubber cheek piece adjusts to any of seven fixed positions by removing the screws and sliding the comb to create perfect eye-level alignment. Likewise, the rubber butt plate adjusts to one of three fixed positions to match up perfectly with the shooter’s length-of-pull.

The Storm’s machined, 20-inch tactical barrel is slotted to reduce weight. It is equipped with a 2 ½-inch bullpup version of the company’s 3 ½ lb. T3™ trigger, housed in a lightweight machined aluminum trigger box. Its weaver-style dovetail is fitted with a nylon-filament arrow retention brush. This innovation improves arrow grip and alignment and reduces noise and vibration. Like all Horton models, the trigger assembly is also equipped with a trigger safety and DFI™ (Dry-Fire-Inhibitor).

Once outfitted, the barrel and trigger assembly bolts into the stock’s receiver The Storm’s ultra-narrow bow assembly measures a remarkable 10-inches axle-to-axle when cocked. Its machined, lightweight aluminum riser is outfitted with a self-locking limb pocket and cap system that prevents limb twist and provides added cushioning that reduces limb stress. The pockets hold the bow’s 13-inch tactical black 165-pound limbs, powered by the bow’s custom RDX Cam System™ and DynaFLIGHT 97 string and cables. The machined aluminum RDX cams are fitted with 440 stainless steel bearings to increase performance and improve stability. Once assembled, the crossbow launches Horton’s recommended arrow at 370 feet per second.

The bow and stock assemblies fit together by seating and bolting the riser into a slot in the bottom center of the barrel assembly, creating a perfectly balanced weapon.

The total assembly is completed by nesting rubber safety wings on top of the crossbow’s PlasticComp® Complēt® molded fore-grip and attaching this two-piece assembly to the bottom of the barrel. The safety wings help prevent a shooter’s fore-grip fingers and thumb from moving above the flight deck while shooting the crossbow.

A string stop system is included in the bow package and fits into the end of the barrel to further reduce noise and vibration.

Combined, the stock and barrel assembly produce a crossbow that weighs 7.7 pounds and is only 35.25 inches long.

Equipped with or without the patented ACUdraw™ cocking mechanism and 4x 32 Multi-Line Scope, the Storm RDX is double-dip fluid imaged in Mossy Oak® Treestand® camo.

The model sells only as a complete package that includes a cocking device, three 400-grain, 20-inch Victory® Archery carbon arrows, and a quiver.

Storm RDX MSRP: $999 with Dedd Sled, $1199 with ACUdraw.
