A coworker of my dad's found this massive dead buck on a new jobsite in the Chicagoland suburbs while cleaing some brush.  Nobody has any idea what killed the buck, but he sure is one impressive beast!  It's racks like this that definitely keep us fired up for the upcoming rut.  Look at those brow tines, and can you say MASS???

Looks like the beading on his bases is pretty sharp. Could be he died in velvet or just out of it, before doing much rubbing.

John - there's actually still some velvet on the rack so you're absolutely correct.  Looks like he died just before or just after coming out of velvet.

Too bad we are not allowed to shoot anything in the Chicago suburbs...those idiots would rather spend money on police officers to sterilize does by chasing them with needles than allow a bow hunter some flexibility.  I'm not surprised to see a Buck get that big if it never got hit by a car.
