Locked Bucks from Michigan's Ice! by Bow Staff 17. February 2010 07:34
Bow Staff

Most Michigan state bowhunters would tell you that there are just no more big whitetail bucks left in their great state. We believe Michigan Conservation Officer, Mike Msher, may just have to disagree with this.

Just recently Mike was at a farm in Allegan County, in the southwestern portion of the state. There he was killing some local, crippled geese. As Mike ventured out onto a frozen cattail swamp (presumably to retrive one) he happened across the find of a lifetime. Two Monstrous bucks were locked in battle (possibly from years earlier) and buried in the winter ice and brush.

We don’t have any more information other than this short story and this one photo. It’s of CO Mike Msher, and the well over 300" of locked bone grasped in his hands! Wow, what a find!

Bowhunting.Com is always interested in the stories and/or photos of bowhunters just like you. If you have, or know of any interesting hunting related photos or stories that you would like to share with us, please don’t hesitate to send them to info@bowhunting.com.

Were especially interested in info on the gear you use - what words and what doesn't

Thank you in advance!

Technically it wasn't a "farm"  Its called the "Todd Farm" but its a sanctuary where NO hunting is allowed.  There is hunting all around it but the santuary has been known to hold some monsters.  Of course they don't ever leave so its nearly impossible to get one of them.  So this is by no means an indicator of the rest of the state.

Y'all do realize he's holding two skulls, right? lol. Hence the "no more" part. They are all dead, and buried in swamp...

"possibly from years earlier"
Wouldn't something have started chewing on them already? curious...

Anthony, not always, and especially in swamps. Squirrels don't venture out into cattail swamps and mice are esay pickens from Owls if they do it. I've found LOTS of sheds over the years from years earlier without a single rodent nibble on them. Think about it... only you can prevent stupid conclusions.

Those are some really nice bucks. They don't grow that that thick of beams down here in Texas. Nice Find. They make for some exciting hunting.

The big buck mentality has to go. I see so many egotistical hunters that look down at any deer that is not P&Y class and would never "degrade" themselves by shooting a doe. Pathetic. Michigan should have a doe only hunt for at least 2 years.

This is absolutely perfect. Thanks a lot, I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time.
