Coyote Eating Deer Mount – What Do You Think?

By Justin ZarrJuly 17, 20159 Comments

What would a day in the life of the Internet be without some sort of controversial photo or video floating around social media?  Whether it’s a poorly Photoshopped trail cam photo of a cougar sneaking up on an unsuspecting hunter, a hunter allegedly faking trophy kills to gain notoriety or a bunch of deer mounts with arrows protruding from them there’s always something to whet our social appetite.

This week’s hot item is a photo circulating which appears to show the mount of a large buck being devoured by a coyote.  Although the purpose of the mount is unknown it certainly seems an odd way to remember and regard a trophy such as this.  While I do enjoy looking at a good deer mount I’m not entirely sure I’d enjoy staring at the barren ribcage and innards of any animal longer than absolutely necessary.  Plus, I have a hard enough time dealing with my better half who isn’t crazy about the deer heads on the wall staring at her.  I can imagine what she’d say if I brought this home, however for sake of keeping this post clean I can’t post that here.

My personal belief is that the mount is for some sort of display in a museum, pro shop, or possibly an entry into a taxidermy contest.  I have a rather difficult time believing someone commissioned this piece for their personal trophy room, although I can’t say it would surprise me if they did.  There are certainly some odd ducks out there and thanks to the World Wide Web we all too often get a look inside their rather odd lives.

So, my bowhunting friends, what are your thoughts on this?  Would you proudly display your half-eaten trophy for the world to see?
