Gear Review: CBE TEK Hybrid

Spring means different things to different people. However, to me it means turkeys, fly fishing and new bowhunting accessories.  As the temperature warms I always seem to find myself itching to try out a new sight or maybe even an arrow rest.  This year, I was immediately intrigued by the CBE (Custom Bow Equipment) Tek-Hybrid sight; a sight with multiple pins and the sliding feature for shooting long range. I ask “Does it get much better than that”? Here is my in-depth review of the CBE Tek-Hybrid bow sight.

 CBE1

The CBE Tek-Hybrid sight is a tough, well-built sight that many bowhunters will enjoy.

First Impressions

At first glance, there are several features that have been incorporated into this sight that I am elated to see. These include: Off-set mounting holes to raise or lower the mounting position, tool-less micro-adjustable sight housing, five bright pins, slider capability, rheostat light, 3rd-axis leveling and the list goes on.

Long-distance shooters don’t have to choose a single-pin movable sight in order to avoid “overcrowding” their sight housing. The Tek-Hybrid takes care of this for you.

Personally, I enjoy shooting at long distances during practice. However, I refuse to use a single adjustable pin sight for hunting.  That meant that my only option was to have a sight with lots of pins (like seven)….until now.  The CBE successfully combines a target-style adjustable sight with the toughness and multiple pin options of hunting sights.

Built To Last

Constructed from machined aluminum, the sight is very sturdy and there is no “play” or movement in any part of the sight in your hand or at the shot on the bow.  The screws on the sight are made of stainless steel which should protect them from rusting after hunting in wet conditions.  The pin fibers are completely enclosed in an aluminum pin so there is no danger of the fibers getting pulled out.  Overall, I feel this sight is built tough enough for most any hunting situation I may find myself.

Whether you bowhunt in tough “western” terrain or in your favorite treestand overlooking a lush food-plot, dependability is important to success.

High Visibility

The pin brightness of the sight is more than enough for most all hunting situations; meaning if it’s legal shooting light, you certainly won’t have a problem seeing your pin.  For those hunters that hunt out of a blind or prefer some extra pin light, the Tek-Hybrid comes with a sight light, but not just any sight light….a rheostat light.  The “all or nothing” days of the pin light are gone. The rheostat light adjusts from a barely visible light to a super bright light; depending on the hunting situation and light conditions.

No Tools Required

The adjustability of the sight is extremely user friendly with the tool-less adjustment of the sight housing (gang adjustments) and the sliding function.  The horizontal gang adjustment only requires the loosening of a thumb screw (about one half-turn); then simply rotate the drive wheel to move the sight left or right.  The sight features a rear facing tape so that you don’t have to turn your bow around while making adjustments.

If you’re in the market for a new sight this year, take a look at the new CBE Tek-Hybrid. The author trust’s his next trophy shot to it….maybe you should too?

Closing Comments
My single complaint with the sight is that when it is time to adjust the bottom pin on the 5-pin sight, it is somewhat difficult to get the Allen-wrench into the pin.  There is a stainless screw below the light that is directly in the way.  Fortunately, once you get the pin dialed in, you shouldn’t have to mess with it after that. Overall, I would give this sight a 9 out of 10 rating. It will definitely be on my bow for the rest of 2013.  The sight retails for around $249 depending on how many pins you want.  If you have any questions, or if you have experimented with this sight, don’t hesitate to comment below! I would love to hear from you.
