The Whitetail Age Gap

By Bow StaffDecember 12, 2012

LAST UPDATED: May 1st, 2015

Kevin Kelly, the Art/Advertising Director at http://www.mooseutilities.com/, recently shared some trail cam pics with the staff at Bowhunting.com. In this unique sequence of images (all captured on the same night) you can see the difference in age from one whitetail buck to the next as each one passes by the camera. These differences are evident in the physical makeup of each buck as well as the changes in their antler. We hope you enjoy these as much as we did. And, by the way, if you have any unique trail camera images you want to share, be sure to send them our way. We would love to see them.

1.5

This deer is believed to be only 1.5 years old!

2.5

This buck is around 2.5 years in age.

4.5

At an estimated 4.5 years of age, the differences are easy to see on this buck.

Editors Note: Judging the age of a whitetail “on-the-hoof” is not an exact science. The only true way to determine age is by removing and examining its teeth.
