Wow, I can’t believe that it is already June! This year is flying by so fast. I have to admit it has been a very eventful year so far. I brought my son to the Wisconsin Deer Classic for the second year in a row, and I think that he is starting to figure out what all of this hunting stuff its all about. (At least that is what I am hoping!).
The show was packed this year and no matter how many times I have visited, I still enjoy going and seeing all of the booths. Glenn Helgeland really has done a good job with these shows and seems to have an increased following year after year. The website for the different shows put on by Glenn can be found at
www.deerinfo.com. I wish I could say that you would find more info about his shows on our site but we have not hooked him yet. I assume he will join forces with HuntingNet.Com eventually.

Prior to stopping at the show my buddy Paul and his son Brian stopped at my Wisconsin hunting property to poke our noses around for the first time this year. We agreed on a spot to plant a food plot and looked around for some shed antlers. I wish I could report that we found a massive shed but we didn’t. I did find a dead spike and that was it. One of these days we will find something to talk about.
A few months went by fast and I found myself back at my Wisconsin property planting a food plot. It turned out that after killing the weeds with round-up there were just too many dead weeds to get through to the topsoil with the rake. So, after a little convincing I talked Pops into burning the weeds off. There was a point where I think he wanted to turn back as you can tell on the expression of his face in the photo below. But, after we were finished we were pretty impressed with the results. Let’s hope all the effort pays off.

After we finished the food plot we jumped in the Argo and headed out to our swamp to check on how things were looking. This would be Craig’s first time out there so I was pretty excited. I also wanted to make sure that my rifle stand was still standing tall. (It was as you can see in the photo). As much as I love bow hunting, I will never miss an opening rifle weekend in WI.
After my visit to the swamp I decided to move a few stands around so
Justin has a better chance this fall. I don’t want him to be crying this fall about not getting a deer!

How do you go to Wisconsin with out tossing a fishing pole in? It’s just in my blood. We were able to catch a few bluegills. It is pretty amazing to watch these little guys grow up. I never really spent a lot of time thinking that one day I would be a dad, but I have to say it is great!
All of the excitement and stimulation, the little man sleeps all the way home so we can catch a movie with mom that evening. (You have to keep these little guys going.)
I will be out and about the next few weeks planting food plots, getting stand sites ready, glassing for deer, and generally preparing for this fall. If you see me on the road give me a honk.
